User guide

What you can actually do with TypeType once it is up and you are signed in.

TypeType is a complete, self-hostable ecosystem for YouTube, NicoNico, and BiliBili, your own account, library, and player, backed by your own API server, downloader, and login services, all running on your instance.

TypeType running on a self-hosted instance

At a glance

  • Watch from YouTube, NicoNico, and BiliBili in one place, with a real player, quality and speed control, cinema mode, native picture-in-picture, subtitles, audio tracks, SponsorBlock, and frame-by-frame stepping. See Watching & the player.
  • Build a library, subscriptions, playlists, history, watch later, and favorites, that stays on your instance. See Your library.
  • Find things, search, channels, Shorts, podcasts, and a home feed. See Finding content.
  • Sign in with a local account or single sign-on (OIDC). See Signing in.
  • Make it yours, playback defaults, languages, captions, SponsorBlock, and which surfaces you see. See Settings.
  • Stay in control, clear your history, block channels, and manage your data. See Privacy & blocking.

Bringing your data in

Already have subscriptions and playlists elsewhere? You can import them from a Google Takeout export or a PipePipe backup, see Importing your data.
